Scientology Volunteer Ministers call for Help Following Hurricane Stan
October 9, 2005
Scientology Volunteer Ministers put out a call for help from anyone who can assist in the relief effort following Hurricane Stan in Central America and Mexico last week.
With relief operations set up in Quetzaltenago and Solola, Guatemala, volunteers are manning shelters and helping with food and supply distribution, and providing trauma relief.
According to the latest report of the Guatemalan National Disaster Reduction Coordination, Stan has claimed at least 508 lives, and destroyed 5,100 houses in the Guatemala, the country hardest hit by this hurricane. Approximately 178,000 people fell victim to the storm.
Guatemalan Vice President Eduardo Stein said on Sunday that rescuers had still not been able to reach at least 90 villages cut off by mudslides. There are reports of as many as 1,400 people feared buried.
Scientology Volunteer Ministers will train anyone who is willing to come and help with the relief effort.
