About the Human Rights Department
The purpose of the Human Rights Office of the Church of Scientology International is to make Human Rights a reality.
There are many courageous, dedicated people working in this field. We believe that all of us, working together, can make this happen.
This is what inspired the creation of this web site. We want this to be a resource and forum to unite and strengthen what all of us are doing to protect and guarantee human rights for all peoples of earth, and to acknowledge those who are making a difference and support them in their work.
Human rights are defined as "the basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled, often held to include the right to life and liberty, freedom of thought and expression, and equality before the law."
The Scientology Religion is based on a belief in human rights and man's basic goodness, and the Creed of the Church of Scientology reflects this.
In our work in this arena we have found tremendous agreement and public support for human rights, but we have also found that most people do not know what their rights are.
This is why we have embarked on a major information campaign, to educate youth and adults on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to increase public awareness and understanding of this vital subject.
"Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream."
